The Friends of Kings Mountain State Park began January, 2009. The focus of this organization is to improve and preserve the heritage of Kings Mountain State Park as a vital reminder of the history of South Carolina and as a valuable natural resource for all S.C. citizens and the park’s many visitors.

The primary purposes of the Friends are to:

  • support the mission the of the Kings Mountain State Park,
  • provide support through partnerships in activities that may include assistance in environmental education, resource management and maintenance,
  • provide volunteer services through financial, staff and program support, and support the park through the promotion of public awareness of the values and benefits of state parks.
  • Help maintain Equestrian and Hiking trails.

The Friends group has worked extremely hard over the years to successfully keep trails cleaned and cleared on the third Saturday of each month, and after numerous storms; built and opened a new 17 mile trail; expanded the equestrian parking area; installing wash bays; running water and electricity to the parking lot; and currently working on power and water to the equestrian campground; and other related activities, such as building a bridge for the hikers.

The Friend’s group is trying to focus efforts throughout the park. However, as these efforts continue, we need involvement from the various Cultural/Historical groups, Scout groups, Campers, Hikers, Runners, 4-H groups and Gardeners.

The Friends of Kings Mountain State Park would like to invite your members to join in our goal to enhance Kings Mountain State Park.  There are many ways to accomplish this; you may join the Friend’s group, volunteer on workdays or anytime that works for you, or simply donate to the goals that support the park and your individual / group interest. With a membership into the friends group; you get a park pass and a feel of accomplishment for supporting your community and state park.

Your support will extend beyond completing the 2023 goals list for the Friend’s group and the park.  Park guests and nature enthusiasts will have favorable impression of your individual/group’s key role in supporting the park and the Friends of Kings Mountain State Park.

Friends of Kings Mountain State Park is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, tax-deductible, non-profit public charity. The FKMSP group can ask individuals and corporations for donations for park needs, as government employees are not permitted to do. Your donations are also tax deductible.
